Day 02: Short walk around Leh for acclimatization

Today we can visit the old part of Leh town and walk around to visit small Buddhist temples and ancient buildings. It is an acclimatization, so we will take it easy and nor tire

ourselves.

Day 03 : Excursion to Pangong Lake (150 Kms approx )

Morning after breakfast drive to to Pangong Lake on the Indo China border. Approx 4 hours drive will take you to this beautiful lake via Chnagla Pass. Arrive at the lake and check in at your Camp and spend the beautifulevening near the lake. Enroute visit Shey Palace + Thikse Gompa one of the most picturesque monastery in Leh.

Thiksey Gompa: 19 Kms from Leh, spectacularly sited, Thiksey is one of the largest and architecturally most impressive Gompas. There are several temples in this Gompas, containing images, stupas and wall paintings of Buddha, which are exquisite.

Shey Palace and Gompa: Situated on a hillock 15 Kms upstream from Leh, it was once the residence of the royal family. A 7.5 mts high copper statue of Buddha, plated with gold and the largest of its kind, is installed here.

The Pangong Lake : Main attraction of this circuit is the Pangong Lake, situated at 14,000 feet(4,267 M). A long narrow basin of inland drainage, hardly six to seven kilometers at its widest point to which foreigners are permitted, is only some seven km along the southern shore from the head of the lake, but it affords spectacular views of the mountains of the Changchenmo range to the north, their reflection shimmering in the ever-changing blues and greens of the lakes brackish water. Above Spangmik are the glacier and snow-capped peaks of the Pangong range.

Day 04 : Drive back to Leh

After leisurely breakfast retrace back to Leh. Enroute visit Hemis monastery. Hemis Gompa: 40 Kms from Leh, it is the wealthiest, best known and biggest Gompa of Ladakh. Its popularity stems from the major annual festival held here in summer. The festival is in honor of Guru Padma Sambhava's birth anniversary. It also has the largest Thanka in Ladakh which is unfurled once in 12 years Hemis was built in 1630 during the reign of Singge Namgyal, an illustrious ruler of Ladakh.

Spend the evening in local market and you may explore Leh palace / Namgyal Gompa which are within the walking distance and market itself. Overnight at hotel in Leh.

Day 05: Drive Spituk to Zingchen and trek to Rumbak 4000 m (4-5 hours)

After a short walk from Zingchen, we will enter the Hemis National Park, home to some of the rare Himalayan wildlife such as Snow Leopard, Blue Sheep and Himalayan marmots. The trail follows the Rumbak stream ascending gradually towards the village of Rumbak. Just before reaching our campsite at Rumbak, we stop at a teahouse run by

the women from the village. Rumbak is known as a place to see and do research on the magnificent Himalayan snow leopard.

Day 6: Rumbak to Mankarmo 4200 m via Stok La (5 –6 hrs)

The trail up to the base of Stok La 4900 m starts fairly gradual but becomes steeper as we approach the pass. From the pass, we descend along the mountainside up and down until we reach some stone houses, use by the Stok villagers for summer pasture. Our campsite at Mankarmo is also a first camp for the Stok Kangri approach. The rest of the day will be spent viewing the magnificent Stok Kangri.

Day 7: Mancarmo – Base Camp 5000 m (3-4 hrs)

Gradually we go higher into a desolate area surrounded by high, snowcapped mountains. At an altitude of 5000m at Base Camp, we will relax and acclimatize before our summit push early the next morning.

Day 8: Base Camp – Summit – Base Camp

Depending on weather and snow conditions, we leave in the middle of night, around 1:00 am. Usually the sky is more clear and the snow harder and easier to walk upon in night/morning when it is colder.

It is a strenuous walk, and in the last part we will most likely use ice axes, crampons and maybe a rope, depending on the snow conditions. However by the time we come close to the top, which usually takes 7-8 hrs, you will forget about the hardship as you will be surrounded by one of the most beautiful sights in the Himalayas. In clear weather the Saser group in the Great Karakoram Range, where K2 lies, can be seen. To bring good fortune, we leave a Khatag – a religious scarf on the peak, which is covered in prayer flags. Leaving the peak, we go down to Base Camp in about 3-4 hrs.

Day 9: Base Camp – Stok- Leh (4-5 hrs)

This morning we will not hurry and by the time you open your eyes, you realize that you have scaled a peak higher than any mountain in Europe! After breakfast we walk down to Stok where a jeep will take us back to Leh. Overnight at the hotel in Leh.

Day 10: Fly to Delhi.

Moring pick up from the hotel to drop you at the airport. Flight to Delhi.
